SEVERAL ROADS IN PENANG, SELANGOR CLOSED FOR LTDL

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Several roads in Selangor and Penang will be closed, and traffic will be diverted in conjunction with the Petronas Le Tour De Langkawi (LTdL) 2024, which will take place from Sept 29 to Oct 6.

In SELANGOR, several routes in Hulu Selangor, Ampang, and Kajang will be closed in stages, and traffic will be diverted.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the bicycle race, which will involve stages four and five, will occur on October 2 and 3 on several routes in Selangor districts.

He added that the race's fourth stage will start at noon on Oct 2 at Dataran Pekan Hulu Selangor and end in Bentong, Pahang. The race route will cover Jalan Dato Muda Jaafar, Jalan Rasathurai, Jalan Mat Kilau, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Syed Mansor, Jalan KL/Tg Malim, Jalan Ampang Pechah, Jalan Kuala Kubu/Fraser Hill, and Sungai Selangor Dam.

He said the race's fifth stage will begin at 11 am on Oct 3  at KLCC. It will cover the route involving Jalan Ampang-Jalan Taman Putra-Jalan Hulu Langat-Jalan Bukit Ampang Menara Tinjau-Jalan Sungai Tekali-Jalan Bukit Hantu-Jalan Sungai Lalang-Jalan Semenyih-Jalan Tasik Kesuma-Jalan Beranang.

"Road closures and detours in stages for all vehicles will be implemented by the District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department according to the day and stage of the race to facilitate traffic movement and safety at the route's location.

"Road users are advised to avoid using the route involved at the time set for the road closure and to plan their journey in advance," he said in a statement.

In BUTTERWORTH,  several roads in the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district here will be closed and diverted for the road race, which will pass through the area on Sept 30 (Monday).

SPU district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said 128 participants in LTdL 2024 will use the route at the Merdeka Bridge, which is the border of SPU and Kuala Muda, Kedah, and end at the Dataran Pemuda Butterworth here.

"Participants will pass Jalan Bumbun Lima, Jalan Kedah, Jalan Titi Mukim, Jalan Teluk Air Tawar, Jalan Bagan Ajam, Jalan Kampung Gajah, and Jalan Bagan Luar and end at Dataran Pemuda Butterworth.

"During the race, the roads travelled by the LTdL 2024 participants will be closed and diverted to the public starting at 8 pm on Sept 29, along Jalan Bagan Luar opposite the Petron gas station will be closed for tent installation work," he said in a statement. 

He said motorists who want to go to Bagan Luar should use the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR). The route from BORR to Jalan Heng Choon Thian will be closed from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Additionally, Annuar informed that Jalan Bagan Luar will also be closed from 1 pm to 3 pm, and road users who want to go to Jalan Heng Choon Thian in the direction of BORR will be diverted to Jalan Heng Choon Thian in the direction of the Butterworth Kulim Expressway (BKE).

"Jalan Heng Choon Thian from the direction of BKE will also be closed from 1 pm to 3 pm, road users who want to go to BORR will be diverted to Jalan Bagan Luar towards Jalan Matcher," he explained.

He said the public and road users who plan to use the affected roads are advised to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes, and obey the authorities' instructions.

The public is also prohibited from parking vehicles along the road involved with the race for the smooth running of LTdL 2024.

Stage 1 of the 2024 LTdL race will begin in Langkawi, followed by Stage 2 from Arau to Butterworth, Taiping to Cameron Highlands (Stage 3), Kuala Kubu Bharu to Bentong (Stage 4), Kuala Lumpur to Melaka (Stage 5), Batu Pahat to Kulai (Stage 6), Miri to Bintulu (Stage 7), and Bintulu (Stage 8).

A total of 22 teams will participate in the ProSeries (2.Pro) status race, which will cover a total distance of 1,190 kilometres. The race will start on Sept 29 from Langkawi and enter Miri and Bintulu in Sarawak for the first time.
