ALOR SETAR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Kedah has increased to 1,384 people from 444 families as of 4 pm today, compared to 1,359 people from 436 families reported earlier this morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana report, one temporary relief centre in Kubang Pasu has been closed, leaving 10 centres still operational.
The Pokok Sena district remains the most affected, with 737 people from 233 families sheltered in five relief centres, namely Surau Desa KEDA Derang, Maahad Tarbiyah Islamiyah Derang, Dewan Serbaguna Pokok Sena, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Hijau Mukim Derang and Masjid Kampung Baru Jalan Lampam.
In Kota Setar, 411 victims from 129 families are still housed at three centres, which are SK Titi Gajah, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kepala Batas and SMK Alor Merah.
The relief centre closed in Kubang Pasu this afternoon was SMK Changlun, while Dewan Lubuk Batu and SK Bandar Baru Darul Aman currently accommodate 236 victims from 82 families.
According to the Irrigation and Drainage Department Public Infobanjir portal, as of 4 pm, the waters of Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas and Sungai Bata at Kampung Bata, Kubang Pasu; Sungai Anak Bukit at Taman Aman and Sungai Anak Bukit at Jambatan TAR, Kota Setar and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Kubur Panjang, Pendang have exceeded the danger levels.
