PAHANG RECORDS 1,409 DENGUE CASES, FIVE FATALITIES AS OF SEPT 28

KUANTAN, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Pahang State Health Department (JKNP) reported a total of 1,409 dengue fever cases, including five fatalities, as of Sept 28.

State Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim, said this is an increase from the corresponding period last year, which recorded 1,075 cases with one death.

The five fatalities due to dengue complications involved individuals aged 40 to 65, with one case each reported in Bentong, Bera, Kuantan, Raub, and Rompin.

“The breeding of Aedes mosquitoes primarily occurs in residential areas, playgrounds, and poorly maintained vegetable gardens,” he told a press conference after the release of Wolbachia mosquitoes in Taman Pasdec Makmur Indera Mahkota 2 here today.

Meanwhile, Pahang Health director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abdul Rahman said the state currently ranks second highest in Malaysia for dengue-related deaths.

“When investigating the deaths, we found that a key factor was patients delaying treatment. In some cases, patients died just one day after being admitted.

“We urge anyone with a high fever of 38 degrees Celsius or above to visit a health or private clinic. If symptoms persist, return to the same clinic so they can track your case,” he said.

In addition, he reported that 410,206 premises have been inspected, resulting in compounds issued to 1,130 property owners, totaling RM565,000, under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act (APSPP) 1975, as of Sept 21.
