CPI TASK FORCE FORMS FOCUS GROUP TO BOOST PERCEPTIONS

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) Special Task Force, which met for the first time today, will establish a 'Focus Group' to implement measures to improve the CPI in the country.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and attended by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The MACC, in a statement, said the Focus Group will be led by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC), the Ministry of Finance and the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC).  

Also included are the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the Division of Legal Affairs, Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM), and the Ministry of Communications.

The Focus Group's objective, which comprises public and private agencies, chambers of commerce and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), is to implement actions related to CPI improvement efforts according to their respective priority areas.

It will report to the National Governance Planning Division (BPGN), MACC, as the CPI Special Task Force secretariat said the statement.

The Special Task Force findings will be reported at the National Governance Cabinet Special Committee Meeting (JKKTN) chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Today's meeting also discussed six areas that must be prioritised: enforcement, public fund management, business competitiveness, investment risk, legislation and strategic communication.

The team consists of chief secretaries and a line of experts, including Bursa Malaysia Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Berita Nasional Malaysia (BERNAMA) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.
