KOTA KINABALU, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- International events like the International BIGSABAH Sale are vital in fostering economic growth and strengthening state local industries, said Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

She said the event not only provides a platform for Sabah's homegrown businesses to expand their reach but also creates opportunities for collaboration, trade, and networking on an international scale.

"These international booths, alongside our local vendors and those from Sarawak and West Malaysia, make this event a truly international affair. Their presence not only enhances the variety of products on display but also fosters cross-border partnerships,” she said when launching The 2nd International BIGSABAH Sale here today.

“The impact of such an event is far-reaching, offering significant social and economic benefits for Sabah. By attracting international exhibitors and visitors, we enhance business travel tourism, which is a crucial sector in our ongoing efforts to boost Sabah's profile as a global destination for both leisure and business.

“The value of this event also extends beyond the immediate economic impact. The social significance of the BIGSABAH Sale is equally profound," she said.

Held at Sabah International Convention Centre here, the event began today and ends on Sunday (Oct 27).

The event sees 315 participating booths, including 30 from Brunei, Thailand (10), Indonesia (four), tthe Philippines (two), and 10 from GM Klang, Malaysia's wholesale city known for its diverse range of products catering to international markets.

Meanwhile, Liew said Sabah offers immense potential for partnerships whether in business events, tourism or other ventures.

She also said Sabah is rich in natural beauty, cultural diversity and unique business opportunities, thus the Sabah government is open to working together to create meaningful and mutually beneficial collaborations.

"Your presence here today signals confidence in Sabah as a key player in the regional market, and I urge you to explore the possibilities for business partnerships, not only within this consumer expo but across various sectors, including tourism, trade and business events.

"Together, we can build lasting relationships that will enhance the visibility and economic prosperity of all our countries," she added.
