MIC APPEALS FOR DEEPAVALI DECORATIONS TO ENHANCE FESTIVE SPIRIT IN INDIAN COMMUNITIES

27/10/2024 04:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Local authorities, particularly Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and district councils nationwide, were urged today to install Deepavali decorations in areas with significant Indian communities.

MIC vice-president Datuk T. Murugiah said residents from several areas, including Batu 2 ½, Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Kuil in Hilir Sentul, here, have lamented about the absence of Deepavali decorations in their neighbourhoods, despite the approach of the celebration.

He said these decorations bring joy to the community and serve as a symbol of togetherness, honouring the Indian community ahead of Deepavali on Oct 31.

“Festive decorations also offer international tourists a glimpse into Malaysia's rich cultural diversity, potentially boosting the tourism sector,” he said.

“I hope local authorities take swift action to make this Deepavali a vibrant and memorable celebration for the Indian community, reflecting Malaysia's inclusive spirit,” he said.
