KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) today distributed food boxes to more than 200 residents from Desa Pandan flats, under the 'Jelajah Peduli Ummah: Ummah Bantu Ummah Sejahtera Insan Al-Falah' initiative.
MAPIM secretary-general, Muhammad Faris Hussain, said that the initiative serves as a platform to raise community awareness on the importance of noble values and social responsibility.
He said that, apart from essential food boxes, MAPIM also provided food packs prepared by the Mobile Kitchen, in addition to free health services through the Mobile Clinic.
“Desa Pandan flats residents can undergo basic health checks, such as blood pressure and blood sugar level, as well as health advice, free of charge,” he said.
Muhammad Faris said this in his speech at the programme, which was officiated by Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, here.
He also expressed hope that the programme will inspire more individuals and organisations to participate in charitable activities, which can bring about positive changes in the lives of those in need.
MAPIM would also implement a 'Ziarah Peduli Ummah' session, to directly visit the homes of asnaf and individuals who are ill at the Desa Pandan flats.
He added that the activity is part of the 'Jelajah Peduli Ummah' programme. In addition to providing care, it also provides direct support to bedridden patients and the elderly who require special treatment.
Through the 'Jelajah Peduli Ummah' initiative, MAPIM aims to help 100,000 people in need in several other states.
The programme also received support from strategic partners, such as the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM), ZUS Coffee, and the Malaysian Wakaf Foundation (YWM).
Meanwhile, when met by the media, Johari, who is also the Titiwangsa Member of Parliament, expressed his gratitude that MAPIM selected residents from among the B40 families from his parliamentary constituency as aid recipients.
“MAPIM wants to assist, so as a people’s representative, I would like to facilitate the effort. We arrange everything so that they (MAPIM) can easily approach the community... so we serve as an intermediary for them (MAPIM) looking for those in need,” he said.
