NATIONAL AUDIT DEPT FOSTERS TIES WITH LARUT MATANG, SELAMA COMMUNITIES UNDER MADANI ADOPTED VILLAGE PROGRAMME

LARUT, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The National Audit Department (NAD) has begun to foster close ties with the local community in Kampung Masjid, Ijok here to raise public awareness about the roles of government agencies.

Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi said the MADANI Adopted Village programme at the village would not only encourage cooperation but also explain the department’s true role to the public, adding that there were several activities involving villagers and department staff such as communal clean ups of village areas, friendly football matches, and communal feasts.

“Repairs to four houses owned by poor villagers under the Love Your Home programme organised by the Perak Foundation will also be carried out under the programme,” she told Bernama at during the programme today, in the presence of Deputy Auditor-General (Finance) Datuk Patimah Ramuji, Deputy Auditor-General (Performance) Datuk Nor Salwani Muhammad, Larut Matang and Selama district officer Mohd Nasrul Menhat and Selama district council president Nor Akmal Yang Ghazali.

The launch of the MADANI Adopted Village programme will be officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad tomorrow at the public field of Kampung Masjid, which has a population of around 900 villagers.

Villager Rahmah Zainal Abidin, 72, expressed her gratitude towards the department for helping to fix her roof, which has been leaking since 2011.

“The leaking roof has been a problem for a long time and my family and I could only afford to patch it. This time we are given a whole new roof and so far it looks sturdy, so it’s really great because I don’t need to worry about leaks anymore,” the mother of two sons said.

Fellow villager, Abdul Samad Abdul Wahab, 57, was delighted as he shared that his two-year problem with his leaking roof has ended thanks to the new roof he received from the programme.

“Alhamdulillah, thanks to the aid I can sleep soundly, and not worry when it rains,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sekolah Kebangsaan Haji Wan Jaafar headmaster Mohamad Hasan Bakri, 54, said the development of the MADANI Hall in the school, which was completed in September, allowed pupils to conduct their co-curriculum activities in greater comfort.

“We have requested for a hall for a long time so that pupils can be comfortable while carrying out their activities in any weather. We were also gifted with an anti-theft fence, which will be a relief in terms of safety,” he said.

Wan Suraya had earlier launched the January 2024 One Leader One Village (Santuni MADANI) programme at Taman Tasik Taiping, which was also attended by Deputy Education Minister cum Taiping MP Wong Kah Woh, Mohd Nasrul and Taiping Municipal Council president Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir.

She said that Taiping was very close to her heart as she grew up there and the programme would strengthen ties between leaders and the local community.

"There will also be engagement sessions with local residents to identify socioeconomic issues and resident needs in two nearby villages, Kampung Pokok Assam and Kampung Tupai," she added.

Several other side events will be held as part of the programme, including aerobic exercises involving communities around Taman Tasik Taiping, and the presentation of RAHMAH packages to 30 needy families.
