MERSING, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Kelab Media Johor (KMJ) recently visited Kampung Orang Asli Tanah Abang, located about 163 kilometres from Johor Bahru, to engage with the community as part of the Jelajah Media Johor (JMJ).

KMJ president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak said the programme, held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Asli Tanah Abang, focused on the health and education of students, as well as parents and the local community.

He said that this year’s JMJ, now in its 8th edition, is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative that also involves collaboration with Regency Specialist Hospital, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and relevant agencies.

“At the same time, I hope that more agencies, especially corporate ones, will come forward to support rural communities and join us in making programmes like this a success,” he said.

“We can help them, particularly in terms of healthcare and enhancing the education of these communities,” he added during the tour.

Mohamad Fauzi said that among the activities carried out were talks on personal hygiene, eye check-ups, health screenings, a colouring competition, quizzes, and traditional games, in addition to mingling with the community.

"Over 100 adult Orang Asli residents underwent health screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, and weight assessments, conducted by around 15 staff members from the hospital," he said.

"In addition, a lucky draw was held, and goodie bags were distributed to the residents and students, alongside the presentation of a mock cheque for RM5,000 from Regency Specialist Hospital to KMJ," he added.

The JMJ convoy was joined by 25 media practitioners from various agencies, including Bernama, Utusan, RTM, as well as media from the NSTP group.
