TERENGGANU GOV'T URGED IMPLEMENT INITIATIVES TO EMPOWER PMKS ENTREPRENEURS

19/11/2024 07:00 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government has been urged to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS) entrepreneurs in the state to boost their productivity and competitiveness.

Kemasik assemblyman Ir Saiful Azmi Suhaili said various skill development and innovation programmes for entrepreneurs could be introduced, but they required proper coordination at the state constituency level to ensure better outcomes.

“Kemasik hopes that the implementation will be more comprehensive with the involvement of the government, private sector, non-governmental organisations, local leaders, and the people.

“It is hoped that these programmes will be coordinated at the state constituency level, as each area may have its own specific plans,” he said when debating the Supply Enactment Bill 2025 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Darul Iman here today.

Meanwhile, during the same session, Ladang assemblyman Zuraida Md Noor suggested that the state government review and improve the existing guidelines for entertainment, cultural performances, tourism, and sports activities in Terengganu.

“For example, before allowing primary school girls to perform dances and other performances in public, it would be better to group them by those who have reached puberty and those who have not. This means that only primary school children who haven’t reached puberty should be allowed to perform,” she said.

She added that efforts to strengthen the guidelines would require the involvement of all relevant agencies to ensure their implementation was carried out with full integrity.

Meanwhie, Buluh Gading assemblyman Ridzuan Hashim suggested that the state government include water sports events, such as long boat races, in its annual tourism calender to attract more local and international tourists to Terengganu.

He said Buluh Gading was ready to host the event, given that the state constituency had previously held several long boat races, including the Kejohanan Perahu Naga Beautiful Terengganu in 2022, which attracted participants from both within and outside Terengganu.

“I believe that if the event is held on a larger scale by the state government, involving participants from both within and outside the state, it will certainly boost the tourism industry and have a positive economic impact on the local population, especially through the sales activities at the stalls set up,” he said.
