LABUAN, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Labuan Corporation (LC) on matters concerning foreign artist performances and news dissemination, aimed at fostering greater economic and cultural vibrancy on the island.

Its deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin emphasised the pivotal role of the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) in managing permits for foreign performances, including those at entertainment venues.

“Puspal is prepared to provide comprehensive guidelines for foreign artist performances, ensuring adherence to cultural sensitivities such as race, religion, and royalty (3R), while addressing concerns related to LGBTQ+ representation and other sensitive issues, including Israel,” he said during a courtesy visit to Labuan Corporation newly-appointed  chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib and his management team at Wisma Perbadanan Labuan here today.

Nik Kamaruzaman also highlighted the Ministry’s intention to collaborate closely with the local authority to boost Labuan’s economy by increasing visitor arrivals, with cultural events serving as a key driver.

Meanwhile, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin pledged the agency’s support in enhancing Labuan’s news dissemination efforts.

She highlighted Bernama’s role in bridging communication gaps and promoting local initiatives.

Nur-ul Afida said that one such initiative, the Labuan Connect programme, would take place tomorrow at Kampung Patau-Patau 1.

Organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with Bernama, the event serves as a pilot project aimed at empowering local communities through digital engagement.

“This programme, which involves participation from entrepreneurs linked to the National Information Dissemination Centres (Nadi), aims to expand access to digital technology and inspire innovation among Labuan residents,” Nur-ul Afida said.

She described Labuan Connect as a dynamic platform for driving meaningful digital transformation and fostering collaboration among various community groups.
