2TM: MOH CHALLENGE OF CYCLING ONE KM IN TWO MINUTES

24/11/2024 03:14 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Can you cycle one kilometre in two minutes?

That is the challenge of the Ministry of Health (MOH) at the Two Years of MADANI Government Programme (2TM) and the 2024 National Convention on Public Service Reform at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, which will end today.

Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Health Department staff Mohd Noor Jahrul Mustafa said the activity, which used a smart trainer bike, aims to test the leg strength and fitness level of visitors, through their cycling distance.

"There are eight gear ratios and visitors will start from no gear before increasing every 15 seconds to test leg strength, while the cycling distance helps us assess fitness levels based on age.

"The cycling distance that is considered normal for men for two minutes is 600 metres and above while for women it is 400 to 500 metres while the gear reading is eight for men and five for women," he told Bernama here today.

Mohd Noor Jahrul said that although many can achieve the normal cycling distance, the number of those who can complete one kilometre in two minutes is small.

Apart from cycling, other activities at the MOH booth to promote a healthy lifestyle are VR Boxing and Just Dance Simulator, while visitors can also have their body composition analysis done.

Private sector worker Shamron Arputha Raj, 30, who took up the challenge was satisfied with his achievement of being able to complete eight gears with a distance 700 metres in two minutes.

"It's a good indication, but at the same time it is also a reminder to continue to take care of your health and practise a better lifestyle, even though you're busy with work," said Shamron who came with his family from Sentul here.

Another visitor, Jacky Cheong, 50, admitted that the challenge was 'not as easy as it looks' after recording a distance of 500 metres, even though she often cycles for leisure.

She said the challenge is a reminder to continue practising a healthy lifestyle, to avoid the risk of more serious diseases.
