GEORGE TOWN, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Federal Government has approved six new projects applied for by Penang under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) for 2025, as part of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow stated that in a letter from the Ministry of Economy on Oct 18, the approval includes an allocation of RM199.14 million, with RM1.95 million for 2025.
The six projects include the redevelopment of Dewan Seri Pinang and TYT Gallery (RM52 million), the construction of an outfall and coastal erosion prevention structures at Batu Feringghi and Tanjung Bungah (RM61.2 million), and the construction of a flyover at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (FT006) from Section 9.50 to Section 10.0 (RM75 million).
The other projects are a new playground at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu, Barat Daya District (RM1.5 million), repairing and replacing chillers at Kepala Batas Hospital (RM4.4 million), and upgrading the water supply tank system and other related works at Balik Pulau Hospital (RM5 million).
Chow listed the projects during the winding up of the Supply Bill 2025 and Development Budget motion at the State Legislative Assembly session today.
Chow elaborated that the construction of a Type 2 Health Clinic in Bayan Lepas, with an estimated cost of RM72.64 million, was also approved under the RP4 of the 12MP.
He explained that the state government had submitted 93 project proposals to the relevant ministries via 19 departments and agencies, which were then forwarded to the Ministry of Economy for further evaluation under RP5 of 12MP. However, only six projects were approved.
Chow, who also chairs the State’s Finance, Economic Development, Land, and Communications Committee, revealed that the State Finance Department is reviewing entertainment duty rates to boost state revenue through Indirect Taxes.
He noted that the increasing number of entertainment license applications in Penang is contributing to a projected rise in entertainment duty collections for the coming year.
He added that, as part of the 2025 State Budget, the State Finance Department has restructured the entertainment duty code system to ensure greater accuracy, compared to the 2023 system, which will affect various details in the 2025 entertainment duty estimates.
