SET UP SPECIAL BODY TO TACKLE ISSUE OF ABANDONED HOUSING PROJECTS IN PAHANG - STATE REP

02/12/2024 07:18 PM

KUANTAN, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- The Pahang government has been recommended to set up a special body to focus on tackling housing issues, particularly those involving ailing and abandoned projects, in the state.

State assemblyman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (DAP-TRAS) said the special body will not only be able to solve the problems of the affected buyers but also prevent losses to the state government.

"For example, there are more than three abandoned projects in the Raub district. In 1989, this project was not completed and, in 2000, a rescue company took over the ailing project and, alhamdulillah, it was finally completed and is now occupied.

"Time passes, the Pahang government and buyers will suffer losses estimated at RM16 million if this project (is left) abandoned. The lesson learnt from this project is that the state government actually has the power and can help solve the problems of these people,” he said.

He said this during the debate on Pahang's Budget 2025 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

In addition, Tengku Zulpuri Shah said Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad (PAIP) can't just rely on allocations from Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) to ensure the continuity of clean water supply in the state, which involves maintenance, replacement of pipelines and unscheduled maintenance.

"For example, Japan often experiences earthquakes and this led the country to rely on creativity to build earthquake-resistant buildings. The issue of unscheduled water supply maintenance has been going on for seven years… there is an urgent need for measures to address this issue,” he said.
