KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,245 cases of infectious diseases have been reported at flood relief centres in Terengganu during this flood season.

State Health director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong said that respiratory infections accounted for the highest number of cases, totalling 969, followed by skin diseases with 166 cases.

She also noted that there were 63 cases of fever and 47 cases of stomach and intestinal inflammation.

“Several cases of eye inflammation were also reported. Fortunately, no serious infections, which could cause an outbreak, were detected,” she said when contacted.

As such, Dr. Kasemani urged the public, particularly those living in flood-affected areas and relief centres, to practise hygiene and safety measures to prevent disease infections.

According to her, people in flood-affected areas were at risk of contracting infectious diseases like diarrhoea, E-coli infection, and leptospirosis.
