KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Former director-general of the Broadcasting Department (RTM) Datuk Jaafar Kamin passed away at the age of 81 at his residence in Section 9, Kota Damansara, today.
The news was confirmed to Bernama by Jaafar's relative, Rosihan Anuar Ahmad, who stated that he passed away at 3.15 pm.
His remains will be brought to the Masjid Kuning in Section 5, Kota Damansara, for funeral prayers, before being laid to rest at the Section 9 Kota Damansara Muslim Cemetery, after Isyak prayers.
Jaafar had been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital for hernia surgery about a week ago, and was discharged on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Jaafar served as one of the longest-serving directors-general of RTM, holding the position from 1988 to 1999.
He also held the esteemed role of president of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), from 1992 to 1998.
