KELANTAN JBPM STEPS UP PATROLS AFTER RIVERBANK COLLAPSE 

KOTA BHARU, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) will conduct regular patrols to check soil movement on the banks of Sungai Kelantan near an apartment and hotel at Jalan Post Office Lama here, which collapsed yesterday.

State JBPM Operations Division Assistant Director Mohd Wildan Azhari said the patrols aim to address potential risks of further landslides.

"The Kota Bharu Fire Station will be conducting routine checks at the affected site. Safety tape has also been placed to warn the public to avoid the danger zone.

"JBPM would also like to advise the public to stay away from the area as there may still be ongoing soil movement, posing a significant risk to those nearby," he told Bernama today.

Meanwhile, Bernama checks today found that some members of the public continue to approach the landslide site, despite the authorities’ warnings, to record videos, take photos or stream live on TikTok.

D’ Ridel Cafe owner, Muhammad Adam Luqman Mazlan, 26, whose eatery is located approximately 200 metres from the landslide, said his premises remain operational.

"I have been operating here for over 10 years. This is the first incident (collapse) near my food outlet. Alhamdulillah, the restaurant is still safe to operate, and the authorities have not yet issued an order to close it," he said.

However, he expressed hope for swift action from the relevant authorities to address the landslide, fearing the possibility of worse incidents.

Yesterday, Bernama reported that the incident caused a pedestrian walkway and recreational path to collapse from a height of nearly 10 metres.
