SEPANG, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow has arrived in Malaysia to undertake his maiden official visit to the country, starting today till tomorrow.
The special aircraft carrying Berdimuhamedow landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 7.20 pm.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali was present to greet the Turkmen delegation.
Upon his arrival, Berdimuhamedow inspected a guard of honour mounted by 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial).
According to a statement from Wisma Putra, Berdimuhamedow will be accorded an official welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya tomorrow followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Both leaders are expected to discuss bilateral matters pertaining to trade and investment, oil and gas cooperation, higher education, tourism and connectivity.
Trade between Malaysia and Turkmenistan has shown significant growth over the years.
Between January and October this year, total trade surged by 74.8 per cent to RM63.28 million (US$13.90 million) compared to RM36.19 million (US$7.91 million) in the corresponding period last year.
In 2023, Turkmenistan was Malaysia’s fourth largest trading partner among Central Asian countries, with total trade valued at RM48.62 million (US$10.57 million).
