IPOH, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM1 million for the construction of the Pusat Pengajian Islam At-Taiyyibin in Tanah Hitam, Chemor, near here.
Anwar said the allocation is an addition to funds already raised by the local community to develop the centre.
“I express my deepest appreciation (to all concerned), including the local residents here, who took the initiative themselves, using wakaf land and carried out the development through their own efforts.
“This is something truly commendable because knowledge is fadilat (beneficial) for all Muslims, and our aim is to educate the community, elevate their status and provide understanding,” he said in his speech during the Mahabbah visit and community feast event at the study centre today.
Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and the patron of Pusat Pengajian Islam At-Taiyyibin, Datuk Dr Mohd Fadhillah Kamsah.
The Pusat Pengajian Islam At-Taiyyibin is an institution committed to leading education in Islamic knowledge and skills for senior citizens, asnaf (those eligible for zakat aid), converts, teenagers, and adults (for Tahfiz and Islamic Studies).
The centre, currently under development, has received strong support from the community, scholars, government agencies and state government leaders.
Meanwhile, Anwar, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tambun, highlighted the significance of the residents' initiative in developing the study centre, as it does not rely solely on government contributions.
“In Islamic tradition, this kind of effort is unparalleled. Building mosques, for instance, is a shared responsibility. Some people misunderstand and think everything comes from allocated funds, but there will be rewards for contributions of at least RM1 towards the construction of a mosque.
“This means enlivening and building a mosque is everyone’s responsibility. That is why I am giving special attention to this study centre, as its initiative mirrors that of mosque building. Developing, constructing and prospering such institutions is a collective call to the entire community. So, there must be contributions -- RM1, RM10, or RM100 -- according to one’s capacity,” he said.
