KBOC RAISES AWARENESS OF FIRE AND WATER SAFETY CONCERNS AMONG CHILDREN

LUMUT, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- A total of 2,117 children from the Kelab Bomba Cilik (KBoC) participated in 38 safety-related activities organised by the Seri Manjung Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) throughout this year.

Seri Manjung Fire and Rescue Station chief Suhaimy Mohd Suhail said this was the highest participation in Perak, involving children aged five and six.

“The activities included early childhood education institutions, preschools, nurseries, and kindergartens, all focused on teaching the basics of safety,” he explained.

“Among the key areas of focus are fire safety awareness, and currently, there is also an emphasis on water safety education,” he added.

Suhaimy shared these details while speaking to Bernama after attending the reunion of veteran firefighters from Zone 3, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) at BBP Seri Manjung, attended by more than 100 veteran firefighters.

On Aug 24, JBPM director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad announced that the rebranding of the Children’s Fire Safety Club (Kelab 3K) to KBoC was a cross-agency initiative aimed at addressing both fire and water safety concerns.

He added that a total of 34,668 members from the 3K Club had been automatically transitioned to KBoC following the rebranding.

Meanwhile, Suhaimy emphasised that basic safety knowledge should be instilled from an early age as it helps minimise the risk of injuries and fatalities related to fire and water incidents.

“Understanding fire and water safety is crucial so that children know how to react in unexpected situations,” he said.

He also pointed out that this knowledge indirectly facilitates rescue operations by authorities when necessary.
