KOTA BHARU, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Four upgrading projects at Siti Khadijah Market here, costing RM200,000, were completed on Dec 9, said Kelantan State Development Action Council joint chairman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
He said the projects involved upgrading the water supply system, repairing surrounding drains, restoring the chute system, and fixing the market’s roof for the ‘kuih’ section.
"Three projects are still underway, including upgrading community toilets on the third floor and the Tandas Sejahtera, roof repairs, and repainting the exterior and interior walls of the market building, with a total cost of RM1.5 million.
"For pre-implementation status projects, there is one proposal for upgrading the electrical system and fire prevention system, valued at RM2.5 million," he told a press conference after delivering his New Year address at a special meeting here today.
The Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability added that the repair works are expected to provide better comfort to the 1,330 traders and attract more visitors and tourists to the market.
Earlier, Nik Nazmi spent about 30 minutes at the market inspecting the progress of the repair works.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim approved an allocation of RM5.5 million in October last year for these repair and upgrade projects.
