MUKAH, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- The Batang Lassa Bridge that connects Daro District with Pulau Bruit is now open to the public.
The 2.4 km long bridge was built at a cost of almost RM600 million and is part of the Sarawak Coastal Road and Sarawak Second Trunk Road projects, both worth about RM12 billion.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the construction of the bridge took 48 months with alternative funding from the state government.
"After this, a two-lane road from this bridge will be built to Daro town," he told reporters after the Batang Lassa Bridge Pre-Launching Ceremony today.
He said 16 bridges were built simultaneously by the state government, with 14 of them along the coastal road and the second trunk road.
Two of the bridges, the Kemena Bridge in Jepak, Bintulu and the Pasi Bridge in Batang Rajang, Sarikei, will be completed in February and March respectively, he said.
Regarding the work progress of the coastal road, he said, it is 80 per cent complete, while the second trunk road project is almost 30 per cent complete.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the Batang Lassa Bridge this Feb 22.
