LABUAN, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The Labuan International Ferry Terminal is set to undergo significant upgrades to improve the overall experience for travellers.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr. Zaliha Mustafa during her working visit to the terminal emphasised the importance of providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for commuters.

"The improved facilities will ensure a pleasant terminal for all travellers," she told reporters after her working visit to the terminal today where she was briefed on the various upgrades already completed, including the expansion of the waiting area and the installation of air conditioning.

She disclosed plans to further enlarge the waiting area to accommodate the growing number of commuters as well as discussed plans to upgrade the old ferry terminal to better serve passenger express boats.

"We need to address this seriously in collaboration with relevant government agencies…we require data on the terminal's capacity and current operations to make informed improvements,” she said.

Dr Zaliha also highlighted the upcoming RM22 million upgrades to the Labuan Ro-Ro Ferry Terminal, scheduled to begin this year.

"We have received briefings from the Labuan Marine Department and Public Works Department regarding these enhancements," she said adding that improvements will focus on reducing waiting time and enhancing the second ramp, as well as constructing specific lanes for various types of vehicles and motorcycles.

Dr. Zaliha also addressed the ongoing delay in the resumption of the Labuan-Kota Kinabalu-Labuan ferry express service, expressing optimism that the issue would be resolved soon.

"This service is crucial for both Labuan and Sabah. I plan to discuss this matter with the Sabah Chief Minister, and we hope to find a resolution before the end of the year," she said.
