MCDONALD'S MALAYSIA MARKS 9TH YEAR OF SPREADING CNY CHEER WITH ELDERLY

14/01/2025 04:20 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- McDonald's Malaysia marked its ninth consecutive year of celebrating Chinese New Year (CNY) with a grand event for elderly residents from nearly 120 old folks' homes across the country, aiming to spread festive cheer and foster connections in the true spirit of prosperity.

McDonald's Malaysia chief marketing officer Chin Mei Lee said that CNY is about togetherness, joy and connection, and that the elderly hold a significant place in the communities.

“Many of the elderlies in old folks’ homes may feel lonely during this festive season, so we want to bring them warmth, cheer and a sense of belonging.

“By celebrating with them, we’re showing our appreciation and spreading the joy of Chinese New Year. This reflects our commitment to building stronger communities and fostering meaningful relationships,” she told reporters after attending McDonald’s Malaysia CNY celebration at Pantai Sentral Park outlet here, today.

Also present was the managing director and local operating partner of McDonald's Malaysia Datuk Azmir Jaafar.

This year's theme of ‘Prosperity’ highlighted that true prosperity is not just about material wealth, but also relating to joy, meaningful relationships and togetherness.

The event featured the tossing of McDonald's Prosperity Lou-Lou curly fries, vibrant music and dance performances, a traditional lion dance and a selection of McDonald's Prosperity meals, all aimed at celebrating the spirit of prosperity and highlighting the importance of community and shared experiences.

Traditional CNY decorations were also displayed at several McDonald's locations, including Bandar Sri Damansara and Pantai Sentral Park in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Laksamana in Melaka and Greenlane in Penang, adding vibrancy and providing memorable photo opportunities for customers.

Chin said McDonald’s Malaysia’s commitment to the community extends far beyond this event, as part of its broader Komuniti @ McDonald’s Programme, which sees over 10,000 community initiatives carried out annually to uplift underprivileged children, families and the elderly.

“These include festive celebrations like Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Ramadan and Hari Raya, as well as our flagship McDonald’s Community Month, where we celebrate the birthday of almost 12,000 orphans every October,” she said.

She added that through initiatives like these, McDonald’s Malaysia continues to honour its brand philosophy of delivering not just delicious food but also feel-good moments that create lasting bonds within the community.
