JOHOR COMMITTED TO ENSURING STABLE SUPPLY OF CLEAN WATER

24/01/2025 06:44 PM

PONTIAN, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The state government is committed to ensuring a stable supply of clean water for the people through the implementation of the project to replace old pipes with new ones throughout Johor.

State Public Works, Transportation, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that the initiative would be carried out continuously, as more than 6,000 kilometres (km) of old and dilapidated pipes required replacement.

“Based on the available allocation, we can only repair 200 to 250 km of pipes per year.

“....it would take up to 30 years to complete the 6,000 km, and even while repairing old pipes, some of those repaired may need to be fixed again,” he said in a statement today.

He said that a reliable water supply was crucial for ensuring the people’s comfort and enhancing local economic activities.

Meanwhile, Fazli said that the new pipe installation project from Benut, Pontian to Rengit, Batu Pahat, covering 8.7 km and worth RM7.6 million, would provide a stable water supply for the residents of Rengit, Batu Pahat, who often experienced water issues, especially during peak periods such as the festive season and school holidays.

He said that the effort was in line with the state government's dedication to implementing the initiatives outlined in the Johor 2025 Budget tabled last year.
