05/02/2025 04:44 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, spent about 30 minutes this afternoon exploring the Islamic arts and exhibits at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) here.

Mirziyoyev and his delegation were presented with an exhibition of various Islamic manuscripts, including a Quran manuscript, the Kiswah of the Kaaba, and models of Islamic architectural designs from around the world.

The visiting president also enjoyed the collection of Islamic manuscripts in the Uzbek language, which was showcased in conjunction with the ‘Roundtable Discussion on Cultural Heritage: A Bridge between Uzbekistan and Malaysia’ organized here yesterday.

Senior Manager of the IAMM Director's Office, Rashidah Salim, said that the visit of the Uzbekistan president is hoped to catalyse efforts to preserve Islamic culture in the country, as Islamic art is one of Malaysia's inherent strengths.

Mirziyoyev, who assumed the President’s Office in December 2016 after serving as Prime Minister of Uzbekistan since 2003, arrived here yesterday for an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Earlier today, the visiting president was accorded an official welcome at Perdana Putra before having a one-on-one meeting with Anwar, who visited Uzbekistan in May last year.
