KUCHING, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Volunteers from Petronas and its subsidiaries have been actively assisting flood victims in Bintulu, Kuching and Miri following the severe floods that have displaced thousands across Sarawak.
In a statement today, Petronas said that through a collaborative effort involving Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Asset), Malaysia LNG Group of Companies (MLNG), Asean Bintulu Fertiliser Sdn Bhd (ABF) and its social impact arm, Yayasan Petronas, the company has contributed over RM800,000 worth of essential emergency supplies.
“These include rescue boats, outboard engines, fuel, food, beverages and hygiene kits to aid affected communities,” the statement said.
Bintulu has been identified as the hardest-hit area, with several neighbourhoods submerged, forcing some residents to seek refuge on rooftops.
Thousands of local emergency personnel and volunteers have been engaged in search and rescue operations across flood-hit areas, including Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Kuching and coastal townships such as Sebuyau and Mukah.
“Cleanup efforts are ongoing, while residents and local authorities assess the extent of the damage,” it added.
