IPOH, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Three cousins, two of them siblings, were conferred their retail management diplomas at Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic’s 21st convocation ceremony today.

The siblings’ mother, Zulaikha Kamarudin, 46, an English lecturer in PSAS, said her son Muhammad Ali Haiqal Mohd Zairi, 24, her daughter, Salsabilla, 22, and her niece Nor Ain Solehah Mohd Sabri, 22, had put a lot of effort and sacrifice to obtain their diplomas and set their foundation for better futures.

"The believe in polytechnic education isn’t something new to our family. It’s long taken root in this generation and have turned them into a true TVET (technical and vocational education and training) family.

"Our whole family believes in the polytechnic system as it is more skill-oriented and provides an easy path to the working world, at lower costs compared to other universities, so polytechnic is the best choice for most families,” the two-decade PSAS veteran said, adding that Muhammad Alief Haiqal and Salsabilla will be embarking on their retailing careers with MR DIY in Tanjong Malim.

Meanwhile, PSAS shared that both siblings had excelled during their time as students, with Muhammad Alief Haiqal winning second place with his team in a department-level innovation competition, while Salsabilla not only was an excellent student but also represented the polytechnic in sports at the national level, having won the doubles bowling event at the Perak Games and third in the Polytechnic Sports Council Championship.

Nur Ain Solehah meanwhile received the Department Head Award for her excellent academic achievement, leadership and contributions to the institution.

"We don’t merely learn theory, but have been given the chance to polish our skills in the real world. Even before we graduated, we have already been given job opportunities,” Muhammad Alief Haiqal said, adding that polytechnic education was the best path for him.
