KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Sarawak and Sabah continues to improve, with the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres dropping to 897 this evening from 1,086 this morning.
In SARAWAK, only five relief centres remain open as of this evening, sheltering 421 evacuees - down from 609 this morning, after two centres were closed.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the relief centres at Stadium Muhibbah Bintulu and Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Hall ceased operations at 3 pm and 1 pm, respectively.
Of the five remaining relief centres, two are in Mukah Division, housing 208 evacuees, two in Miri with 210 evacuees, and one in Sibu with three evacuees.
In SABAH, the state’s Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported a slight decrease in evacuees, with 476 individuals from 144 families housed at relief centres as of 4 pm, compared to 477 individuals from 145 families earlier in the day.
A total of 302 evacuees (99 families) remain in two centres in Beaufort, while 174 evacuees (45 families) are at two centres in Kinabatangan.
The statement added that floodwaters are gradually receding in Kinabatangan, leading to fewer evacuees, while the situation in Beaufort remains unchanged.
