KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- The 25K Huffaz Gathering will be held this year as a testament to the collective efforts to elevate tahfiz institutions and honour the huffaz generation, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The deputy prime minister said tahfiz institutions played a crucial role in building the Quran generation, emphasising that they were not merely places to memorise the Quran but centres for developing a rabbani generation that comprehended, appreciated, and practised these sacred teachings in everyday life.
“I am committed to ensuring that huffaz institutions continue to be upheld so that more huffaz will be produced, skilled not only in memorisation but also possessing intellectual capabilities and skills that can contribute to the development of the country,” he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council chairman, said the progress of tahfiz institutions in Malaysia was highly commendable, with 18 state maahad tahfiz and 1,058 private maahad tahfiz operating nationwide.
He added that the number of tahfiz students had now reached 55,000, with nearly 8,000 dedicated teachers, proving that public interest in tahfiz education was growing and reflecting an increasing awareness of the importance of building a Quran-centred generation.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the Tabika KEMAS Pre-Tahfiz programme not only laid a strong foundation in tahfiz education but also instilled Islamic values that would shape the children’s identity from an early age.
He said the programme could also serve as the foundation for the target of producing 125,000 professional huffaz by 2050, a vision aimed at elevating Malaysia’s status as a world-class reference centre for Quranic education.
