IPOH, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- School administrators across the country must adhere to the Education Ministry (MOE) guidelines in facing the monsoon transition phase next month, said Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
He was referring to the Guidelines for Educational Institutions under the MOE During Hot Weather, dated April 28, 2023.
"Parents are also encouraged to provide sufficient drinking water for their children, while schools will ensure an adequate supply of drinking water for students."
"At the same time, the MOE, JPN (State Education Departments) and schools must continuously monitor updates issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and take necessary action according to the existing guidelines," he said.
He spoke to reporters after observing the operation of the first day of school at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Chung Tack, Kampung Simee, which was also attended by State Education Director Safuan Raba'ai today.
MetMalaysia director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip reportedly said that hot and dry weather would affect most areas, particularly in the northern peninsula, Perak, Pahang, and Kelantan, from this month until May.
He added that the country is in the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to end by mid-March, resulting in reduced cloud cover and lower rainfall.
