OMBAK PAZAAR ELEVATES SHOPPING EXPERIENCE AT MAYANG MALL

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- No second thoughts – that was the general sentiment among vendors at the Ombak Pazaar retail space in Mayang Mall here when deciding to rent business lots there since Jan 16.

Ombak Pazaar is a commercial space designed as a 'modern market' to showcase, strengthen branding, and expand the market reach of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within a dynamic shopping environment.

True to its name, Ombak Pazaar’s design is inspired by waves, industrial aesthetics, and Islamic art, focusing on symmetry and balance while incorporating industrial design elements through raw materials, exposed structures, and utilitarian forms.

Iconic Attire owner Syed Muhammad Farhan Alyahya Tuan Din said that as a Terengganu native, a prestigious shopping mall like this had long been anticipated, and upon learning about Ombak Pazaar, he did not hesitate to secure a space there.

“This retail space, with its exclusive and modern design, has set a new standard for shopping experiences in Terengganu, particularly for batik enthusiasts in Malaysia. Personally, I find the rental rates reasonable given the prestige it offers,” he told Bernama recently.

Having been in the ready-to-wear batik business for five years, he said the strong cultural identity reflected in hand-painted and block-printed batik, along with various other styles, was a key reason he chose a retail space on the mall’s third floor.

"God willing, I am confident that with the encouraging response to Mayang Mall since its opening in December, it will bring in high and widespread customer traffic," said Syed Muhammad Farhan, adding that he remains committed to maintaining the quality of his products.

The 28-year-old entrepreneur added that Ombak Pazaar also offers a more comfortable shopping experience compared to crowded locations, especially during festive seasons, as not all customers enjoy shopping in packed spaces.

Meanwhile, Luxe By Simply Famous Perfume employee Nurul Ain Najwa Mazlan said that despite being at Ombak Pazaar for just a month, the business, which specialises in customised perfumes, has successfully attracted both local and international customers.

She believes the unique vibe of the retail space plays a significant role in drawing customers in.

Nurul Ain Najwa also believes that Ombak Pazaar’s SME-focused approach has the potential to generate impressive sales and lucrative income for traders.

“In this shopping mall, we see a lot of international brands. But when customers enter Ombak Pazaar, the focus is on local products. They can compare prices, and I believe we have a pricing advantage here,” she said.

Interestingly, aside from being a business hub, Ombak Pazaar is also designed to enhance community engagement through dedicated exhibition spaces.

EXCEED Design Show 2025 director Muhammad Muhqlis Hakimi Eddie Syukri, who is a student at the Faculty of Innovative Design and Technology at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), was the first exhibitor to showcase a final-year project there.

He said the exhibition, which began on Feb 10, provided an opportunity for two groups of exhibitors to introduce their designs and promote UniSZA’s design talents.

“We held this exhibition outside the campus to attract people to learn about our course and UniSZA itself. That was our main goal, and thankfully, at Ombak Pazaar, we were able to achieve it, as the turnout was very encouraging.

“Additionally, it helps us position ourselves in the job market, as some visitors could be industry players in the design field,” he said.
