GEORGE TOWN, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PWSC) has announced that 33,500 consumer accounts in Air Itam, Farlim, and Paya Terubong will experience a scheduled water supply disruption for 18 hours from Friday to Saturday.
PWSC chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan said the disruption is necessary for pipeline diversion works related to the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu-Air Itam Bypass project.
“The 18-hour disruption from 9 pm on Friday to 3 pm on Saturday was approved by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) in a letter to PWSC on Feb 17.
“We need to temporarily shut down the valves at five pump houses to facilitate the final connection of a 600mm pipeline diversion along Thean Teik Highway, in front of Farlim Market,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the disruption is directly linked to the 600mm pipeline diversion project to support the state’s flood mitigation works related to the bypass project.
Pathmanathan explained that the existing mild steel pipeline must be safely relocated from the project site to prevent any incidents that could disrupt supply in the affected areas.
A total of 64 locations across three areas will experience the scheduled disruption, including All Season Place, Lebuh Rambai 1–17, Asia Height, and Thean Teik Highway from Farlim Market to the Jalan Paya Terubong junction.
Other affected locations are the Jalan Thean Teik Volunteer Fire Station, Lengkok Angsana, Desa Baiduri, Lengkok Paya Terubong, Desa Mawar Apartment, Lengkok Tun Mohamed Salleh Ismail, Ecoworld, Lintang Angsana, and Emerald Height.
Also impacted are Lintang Kampung Melayu 1 and 2, Fairy Height, Lintang Paya Terubong 1–6, GL Garden, Lintang Paya Terubong, Green Garden (Lorong Bukit Kukus), Lintang Thean Teik, Halaman Zoo Satu, and Lintasan Kampung Melayu 1 and 2.
Additionally, Jalan Angsana, Lorong Bukit Kukus, Jalan Beriksa 1–4, Lorong Rambutan, Jalan Buah Jambu, Lorong Rhu 1 and 2, Jalan Buah Limau, Medan Angsana 1–4, Jalan Bukit Kukus, Medan Angsana Apartment, and Jalan Lembah Ria will also be affected.
