KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM) will accept its first cohort for the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme next July, said Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said the university had previously opened intake for the Doctor of Philosophy (Entrepreneurship) programme, enrolling 16 PhD candidates in July last year.
“UKKM is also in the process of adopting and implementing the Work-Based Learning approach, such as the 2U2I programme (two years at university and two years in industry) for undergraduates, to produce graduates who are highly sought after by the industry,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the UKKM Pro-Chancellor Proclamation Ceremony and First Convocation at the World Trade Centre here today.
Also present were UKKM pro-chancellor Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, who is also the secretary-general of the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry; UKKM pro-chancellor Tan Sri Mohamad Fauzi Harun; and UKKM Board of Directors chairman Datuk Dr Rosli Mat Hassan.
Apart from that, Ewon said UKKM planned to offer several academic programmes through Open Distance Learning (ODL), catering to candidates living far from the main campus.
“To ensure UKKM remains competitive and aligned with current demands, I suggest that it explore and expand its existing study programmes.
“This includes adding programmes in business data analytics, franchise management, international business, and entrepreneurial leadership, as well as those relevant to current trends,” he said.
Ewon also said that UKKM had obtained a permit to enrol international students and would begin their intake this year.
As a full-fledged private university, he said UKKM was making initial preparations to obtain recognition, including from the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education (SETARA) and the Malaysia Top Business School (MyTBS) audit.
“UKKM is also in the process of securing an international rating, namely AMBA (Association of MBAs) based in Europe. I am confident that under its current leadership, UKKM will establish itself as a reference university in cooperative studies in the future,” he said.
