TURKISH DEFENCE FIRMS TO MAKE STRONG PRESENCE AT LIMA 2025 - ENVOY

21/02/2025 01:22 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Turkish defence companies are gearing up for a prominent display at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA 2025), to be held from May 20 to 24, said Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yuksel.

Noting that LIMA is one of the most significant air and naval defence events in this region, he said the exhibition is important in fostering global partnerships and showcasing Turkiye's technological innovations in the defence sector.

"It's a tradition that we (Turkish defence firms) always come to Malaysia for LIMA Langkawi. As far as I remember, two years ago we had around 40 companies involved in the exhibition.

"This year, I expect nothing less than that. Most probably, they will be coming at around that number as well, maybe more," he told Bernama after an interview on Bernama TV's The Nation programme yesterday.

Yuksel said he is confident that major Turkish defence firms such as Turkish Aerospace, Aselsan, Roketsan and Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik (STM) would participate in this year's LIMA.

The diplomat said several high-ranking Turkish officials may also attend the event while hinting at some surprises.

On defence cooperation between Malaysia and Turkiye, Yuksel said it is an area of focus for the two countries, with an emphasis on technology transfer, cooperation and future joint production.

He believes that the advanced industrial capabilities of both nations are instrumental for future cooperation and partnerships.

"Here, I would like to say that we (Turkiye) see Malaysia as a partner. It's not a market. Sometimes some people say that it's a Malaysian market; this is not true.

"We would like to be a partner with Malaysia so that we can work together for the greater good of the region," he said.

Noting that there are ongoing discussions and negotiations regarding several projects between Turkiye and Malaysia, the ambassador said the reciprocal visits by the defence ministers of both nations last year would lead to closer cooperation in the future.
