PLKN 3.0 INSTILS DISCIPLINE, CONFIDENCE AND PATRIOTISM IN YOUTHS

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The National Service Training Programme (PLKN) 3.0 which commenced on Jan 12 for 45 days, has shown a positive impact in fostering a strong sense of identity and discipline among trainees.

Despite various challenges, the programme has successfully shaped trainees through rigorous training that not only tests their physical endurance but also strengthens their mental resilience.

One of the trainees, Muhammad Zuirfan Mustaqim Mohd Zukri, 18, said with the guidance of experienced trainers, PLKN 3.0 imparted invaluable experiences and helped him improve his time management skills.

“Here, we are trained to wake up early, follow a strict schedule and participate in various activities. Before joining, I struggled with time management, but after going through the training, I found it much easier to be punctual.

“Although it was challenging at first, with the support from trainers and fellow trainees, I managed to complete the training, which boosted my self-confidence,” he said when met by reporters after the PLKN 3.0 Series 1/2025 Passing-Out Parade at the 515th Territorial Army Regiment Camp, here, today.

A total of 116 pioneer PLKN 3.0 trainees completed their training today, while four others were unable to finish due to various issues, including health, university admission, and representing Malaysia in silat tournaments.

An Orang Asli trainee, Ivy Nurshafica Amaynie, 24, from the Jakun tribe, said her experience in the programme has convinced her to encourage her peers to join PLKN 3.0 if given the opportunity.

Ivy, who is from Kampung Orang Asli Kemidak in Johor said the programme instilled in her the importance of teamwork in completing tasks, alongside fostering healthy competition among trainees.

“The most exciting parts of the training were shooting practice and survival activities like abseiling. I used to be afraid of heights, but the abseiling training helped me overcome my fear,” she said.

She added that she would be using the experience gained from PLKN 3.0 to her advantage as she prepares for her Royal Malaysian Navy admission interview tomorrow.

Another trainee, Wong Wei Pin, 20, suggested extending the programme to at least three months to provide trainees with a more comprehensive learning experience.

Wong, who aspires to serve in a commando unit said his passion for the military drove him to join PLKN 3.0.

“Since childhood, I have enjoyed watching military parades and war films. My dream is to serve as a commando in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), whether on land, in the air, or at sea," he said.

On Jan 12, 120 voluntary trainees from across the country reported for PLKN 3.0, marking the programme’s return after a seven-year hiatus.

The programme’s phased implementation aims to instil patriotism, national unity, and a sense of identity among youths while equipping them with the strength to face life’s challenges through physical and mental training.
