SJMC FIRST HOSPITAL IN ASIA-PACIFIC WITH FOUR ACHSI CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE CERTIFICATIONS

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has achieved a significant milestone in patient care by becoming the first hospital in the Asia-Pacific region to hold four Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) Centre of Excellence certifications. 

Its chief  executive officer Bryan Lin said that the latest accreditations recognised SJMC’s Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Paediatric services, adding to its existing certification for oncology.

SJMC, he added, has been a leading private tertiary hospital for 40 years, during which time it transformed care and continually refining its practices to deliver comprehensive and value-based healthcare.

"These four Centres of Excellence certify and validate our multidisciplinary team's approach to person-centred care, which focuses on improving patients' overall health and well-being for a more effective and efficient healthcare experience.

"We are proud to lead the way as the first private hospital in the Asia-Pacific region to receive four ACHSI Centre of Excellence certifications," he said in a statement today.

Lin emphasised that the certification represents a commitment to continuous improvement, advancing medical science, and ensuring every patient receives world-class care and peace of mind.

Meanwhile, Deputy Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Simon Fellows congratulated SJMC at the certification ceremony recently, saying that the accreditations affirm that SJMC met the highest international standards for healthcare services

"Australia is proud to support Malaysia's growing reputation for healthcare excellence, and we look forward to strengthening the healthcare partnership between our two countries," he added.

The ACHSI evaluation process follows the EQuIP7 Core and Ambulatory Standards, using the EQuIP7 Resource Guide alongside the Advanced Person-Centred Systems (PCS) Module Guide.

SJMC was assessed against key criteria such as patient experience, corporate management, workforce competency, measurable outcomes, and overall care value, ensuring accredited organisations meet the highest healthcare standards.

ACHSI and Consulting executive director Louise Cuskelly also congratulated SJMC for its achievement, which she said solidified the medical centre’s position as a regional healthcare leader, especially in the fields of clinical outcomes, patient experience, governance, and innovation. 

This latest achievement adds to SJMC's impressive track record, which includes three-time Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditations and six-time Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) accreditations. 

The medical centre is also one of the four finalists for the Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme 2023–2025, an initiative by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), supported by the Health Ministry to establish Malaysia as a global leader in healthcare tourism.

SJMC's multidisciplinary services have also gained global recognition, including its recent inclusion in Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2025 and Best Specialised Hospitals APAC 2024, with seven of its specialities-Paediatrics, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Oncology, Endocrinology, Neurology, and Orthopaedics-ranked among the top in the Asia-Pacific region.
