GEORGE TOWN, March 6 (Bernama) -- Preliminary work to upgrade the road from the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) intersection in Bagan Ajam to Permatang Pak Elong, Butterworth, near here, will commence in the third quarter of this year and is expected to be completed within three years.
Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the RM561 million road upgrade project covers a distance of eight kilometres.
“The proposed road upgrade involves expanding the existing two-lane road into a four-lane dual carriageway, including the installation of street lighting, traffic lights, road furniture and drainage system upgrades.
“In addition, the project includes upgrading seven existing intersections, with five of them being closed and converted to ‘Left In Left Out (LILO)’ only, featuring free-flow U-turns, while two intersections will be upgraded with traffic lights,” he told a press conference here today.
He added that the upgrade would help ease congestion and improve traffic flow in the area.
