JASIN, March 7 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Jasin has dropped to 32 people from 11 families as of 8 pm, compared to 180 people from 50 families at 4 pm today.
Melaka Civil Defence Force director Lt Col (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim said all the victims are housed at two temporary relief centres (PPS), while the PPS at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dang Anum was closed at 8 pm.
“SMK Dato’ Abdul Rahman Ya’kub is sheltering 25 victims from eight families, while Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Penghulu is accommodating seven victims from three families,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the evacuees are from Kampung Kilang Berapi Utara, Kampung Kilang Berapi Barat, Kampung Merlimau Pasir, Kampung Asam Kumbang and Batu Gajah.
Yesterday, the media reported that floods hit Melaka Tengah and Jasin following continuous heavy rain for over an hour, beginning at 11 pm on Wednesday.
