JOHOR BAHRU, March 8 (Bernama) -- The Johor State Government, through the Johor Heritage Foundation (YWJ), has launched its latest collection of Kain Benang Johor (Johor Yarn Fabric), known as the Qalbu Collection, to promote its use among the public, particularly civil servants in the state.
State Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee K. Raven Kumar stated that the limited-edition Qalbu Collection was introduced not only to preserve Johor's rich textile heritage but also to ensure that the uniqueness of Johor Yarn Fabric is accessible to all levels of society.
“This new collection is now available for purchase as part of our efforts to encourage the public, especially civil servants, to wear Johor Yarn Fabric every Friday, as a symbol of Johor’s identity.
“Previously, the price was quite high, but it is now more affordable. While it is not compulsory, we encourage its use to proudly represent our identity as the people of Johor, or as we are known, Bangsa Johor,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the launch of the Johor Yarn Fabric, Qalbu Collection and Johor Yarn Fabric Collaboration Programme by Johor State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani here yesterday
Meanwhile, Raven Kumar said the state government also intends to promote the Qalbu Collection Johor Yarn Fabric in other states.
“A total of 17 designs of Qalbu Collection Johor yarn fabrics are produced, two of which have been sold out, “ he said.
For a start, he said, 2,500 pieces of Qalbu Collection Johor yarn fabrics were produced for sale at a discounted price of RM262 during Ramadan and Syawal. The normal price is RM350.
He said the public can get Johor yarn fabrics from YWJ Galeri Tenun Johor or from The Johor Collection, which is the main sales agent for the product.
