JASIN, March 11 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) will allow only 20 per cent of its 496 personnel to go on leave during this year's Aidilfitri.
Its director Mohd Pisar Aziz said the move ensures fire stations (BBP) in the state have enough personnel to carry out duties and operations.
"This step also ensures that all assignments run smoothly, including deploying personnel for rescue operations in case of untoward incidents.
"Melaka JBPM is always prepared to handle any emergency, not only involving fires but also other rescues such as accidents, floods, and drowning cases," he told reporters after the Melaka JBPM Ihya Ramadan Programme at Jasin Bestari Station last night.
Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh attended the event.
Mohd Pisar said the department would also ensure that logistical readiness was in good condition and could be mobilised in an emergency.
Meanwhile, he said that in conjunction with the Ihya Ramadan Programme, Melaka JBPM distributed Ramadan Aid Baskets to 40 recipients, including underprivileged families and orphans in the Jasin parliamentary constituency.
He added that the aid was provided through contributions from various parties to the Melaka Fire and Rescue Welfare Fund to be distributed to those in need.
