J-KOM STRENGTHENS ROLE IN DISSEMINATING GOV'T POLICIES

IPOH, March 13 (Bernama) -- The Community Communications Department (J-KOM) is enhancing its role in disseminating information on government policies through the Ih’ya Ramadan Berkat Musyawarah Malaysia MADANI Bekerja programme, which is being conducted across six zones nationwide.

J-KOM director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop said the programme covers six zones: the northern zone (held in Alor Setar, Kedah), the central zone (Ipoh, Perak), the southern zone (Muar, Johor), the eastern zone (Temerloh, Pahang), as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

"I want to emphasise that J-KOM is an agency under the Ministry of Communications, functioning as a socio-political body responsible for safeguarding, conveying, and explaining government policies to the people.

"For instance, we are currently witnessing the liberalisation of information, with social media dominating and shaping public perception. If no agency steps in to provide accurate information, it can be manipulated," he told reporters at the programme here today.

He noted that the spread of manipulated information within society has contributed to political instability in the country.

Therefore, he said, J-KOM plays a crucial role in educating communities using three key approaches, namely: loyalty, the development of Malaysia MADANI, and citizen engagement.

"As a sovereign and independent nation, we must determine our own direction. This is not solely the responsibility of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim but also that of the people—through loyalty.

"Secondly, in developing Malaysia MADANI, J-KOM adopts the ‘MADANI Bekerja’ approach, where we go to the ground to engage with communities. Lastly, we aim to make MADANI a people-driven movement because we recognise that many citizens are in need of assistance," he said.
