KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Legal and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said announced that Malaysia will host two major international programmes this July.
The first is the Regional Summer Academy (RSA), a joint initiative by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Assembly of Parties (AoP) of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), from July 11 to 14 this year.
The second one is the International Conference on Governance and Integrity on July 15, organised by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU) in collaboration with MACC, IACA, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
In a statement today, Azalina, who is the president of the 13th Session of the AoP IACA, said these events will serve as key platforms to discuss best practices in governance and anti-corruption efforts, as well as to strengthen integrity and administrative oversight.
She added that both programmes were discussed during yesterday's IACA Bureau Meeting as part of her official visit to Vienna, Austria.
"I was in Vienna to chair the first meeting of the (Extended) Bureau of the Thirteenth Session of the Assembly of Parties of the International Anti-Corruption Academy yesterday," she said.
"The IACA Bureau, which convenes quarterly, oversees administrative matters, such as the bureau’s strategic direction, financial standing, and human resources management," she said.
As the head of the AoP Bureau, which comprises 77 countries and four international organisations, she emphasised that the meeting plays a crucial role in formulating IACA’s policies and strategies to enhance its role as a global anti-corruption training academy.
Azalina added that the agenda included discussions on the preparations for the 14th Session of the AoP, scheduled for the end of the year.
The meeting was attended by Malaysia’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to IACA, Ikram Mohammad Ibrahim, as well as senior officials from IACA, MACC, and BHEUU.
Azalina also received a courtesy call from Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
Their discussions focused on Malaysia’s plans to adopt UNCITRAL’s Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency to align the country's insolvency framework with global best practices.
"This initiative reflects Malaysia’s commitment to legal innovation and sound economic governance, as I announced during the Malaysia Cross-Border Insolvency Conference 2025 on Feb 25.
"The meeting was particularly significant as, under its ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, the MADANI government will lead regional legal cooperation, including efforts to harmonise ASEAN’s cross-border insolvency laws," she said.
