KPWKM PRAISES SARAWAK’S PROPOSAL TO UPDATE EKASIH LIST

16/03/2025 02:16 PM

KUCHING, March 16 (Bernama) -- Sarawak’s proposal to update the eKasih aid recipient list will contribute positively to the well-being of its people, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said that although eKasih is not under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry’s (KPWKM) jurisdiction, revising the list is necessary as some individuals who are not underprivileged are included.

“We do not want Sarawak to be labeled as a wealthy state while its people are perceived as poor. This creates an inaccurate impression of Sarawakians and Malaysians as a whole.

“Reviewing the list is a commendable effort, as the state government has provided significant benefits to its people,” she told reporters after officiating the Juh Shopping Dengan Yayasan PEKEMA Sarawak programme here today.

Nancy expressed hope that the issue would be promptly addressed at both federal and state levels, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s aspiration of eradicating poverty in Malaysia.

Earlier, in her speech at the event, Nancy said the programme by Yayasan PEKEMA Sarawak was not only about providing aid but also ensuring children experience the joy of celebrating Hari Raya.

A total of 150 asnaf children were selected for assistance, each receiving RM200 shopping vouchers for festive necessities.
