SPNB SEEKS ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO EXPAND RMR PROJECTS NATIONWIDE

17/03/2025 05:59 PM

MELAKA, March 17 (Bernama) -- Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) has requested additional allocation from the Federal government to expand Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) projects nationwide.

SPNB chief executive officer Mohd Jamil Idris said the company has received 69,000 applications from across the country, with 13,000 currently awaiting their turn for construction, but several challenges have hindered efforts to speed up the project.

“Our constraints include issues with the collection of monthly repayments from applicants who have received their homes. Delayed payments affect the state’s performance in securing additional quotas for RMR projects.

“Therefore, I urge recipients to make monthly repayments consistently to enable additional allocations for their respective states, ultimately allowing more people to own RMR homes,” he said after the Second Session of RMR 2025 state-level briefing and handover of offer letters involving 106 applicants today.

The event was officiated by Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abd Halem. Also present was SPNB state director Khairul Azhar Abdullah.

Mohd Jamil noted that Melaka ranks third for the highest RMR monthly repayment performance, which increases its chances of receiving additional allocations.

He added that SPNB is open to discussing repayment issues with recipients and is willing to restructure their plans. However, for arrears exceeding 12 months, legal action, including seizure notices, may be taken.

He explained that RMR owners only need to repay RM55,000, as the government subsidises RM20,000 of the total RM75,000 cost.

So far, SPNB has built 69,848 RMR homes nationwide, including 3,626 in Melaka.

Meanwhile, Mohd Noor Helmy praised SPNB’s contractors in Melaka, noting their strong performance in completing the homes in less than 45 days while maintaining quality within the budget.

"On behalf of the state government, I thank SPNB for constructing numerous RMR homes, and I hope Melaka will receive additional quotas in the coming year," he said.
