PWD LABUAN COMPLETES RM13.97 MIL REDEVELOPMENT OF SMK LABUAN UNDER SCHOOL PROJECT

LABUAN, March 17 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Public Works Department (PWD) has completed a redevelopment project worth of RM13,965,271.54 at SMK Labuan under the government’s sick school initiative.

Commenced on Oct 25, 2022 and completed on Feb 28, 2025, the project involved the construction of a replacement building and an additional facility to enhance the school’s infrastructure.

The official handover was conducted today by Labuan PWD director Ir. Mohd Faizul Mohd Ali Hanapiah to the acting director of the Labuan Education Department, Yahya Ahmad Puteh in the presence of of Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Development) of the Ministry of Education, Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim.

Mohd Faizul said the project scope included demolishing the existing Block C and constructing a new academic block with nine classrooms, a teachers’ room, a multipurpose hall, as well as mechanical and electrical systems. 

“External works such as road widening and upgrading were also undertaken,” he said at the handing over ceremony at SMK Labuan here today.

Mohd Faizul said the project was part of the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) broader initiative to improve the quality of educational infrastructure under the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025.

“Through this effort, PWD supports MOE in ensuring a more conducive, safe, and comfortable learning environment for students and educators,” he said adding that the project aligns with the government’s strategy to address the issue of dilapidated schools and enhance educational facilities nationwide, including in the Labuan.

“With this newly completed infrastructure, we hope to boost students' motivation and performance while fostering sustainable educational development for future generations,” he said and hoped the upgraded facilities would empower teachers to deliver quality education, thereby improving the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching and learning processes.
