JITRA, March 18 (Bernama) -- The Kedah government expressed regret over the irresponsible behaviour of some visitors who failed to manage their waste properly, leaving the Dataran Medan Bandar area here littered, after breaking their fast.
State Housing, Local Government, and Health Committee chairman Major (Rtd) Mansor Zakaria said that such an attitude should not become a norm, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
“There are garbage bins in the area, but they are inadequate for the large number of visitors. It would be more responsible to take the trash back instead of leaving it behind," he said.
“Do not expect others to clean up after you. Let’s all work together to keep the area clean, especially as we prepare for Visit Kedah Year (TMK) 2025,” he told reporters after inspecting the Taman Sri Aman Ramadan Bazaar, yesterday.
He added that opening the area for breaking the fast is part of efforts to celebrate Ramadan while supporting TMK 2025.
“Many have requested that the space be used as a communal breaking-fast venue. Everyone is welcome to bring their families, but please maintain cleanliness,” he urged.
Mansor also said that he would discuss the issue with the Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) to explore possible solutions.
