MELAKA, March 20 (Bernama) -- Replicas of two traditional games, Dam Aji and Konda Kondi, have been chosen as official souvenirs for the World Tourism Day (WTD) and World Tourism Conference (WTC) in September 2025.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said Dam Aji and Konda Kondi were chosen to showcase the two traditional games on the global stage, especially as Melaka will be hosting the prestigious tourism events, which will be attended by 155 delegations comprising tourism ministers from participating countries.

“This is also part of our initiatives to strengthen Melaka’s position as a premier tourism destination, with a special focus on sports tourism,” he said in his speech at an engagement session with Melaka Tourism Industry players 2025 at Bukit Cina, here today.

Also present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy.

Ab Rauf said he hoped the engagement session held today would be fully utilised by all relevant departments and agencies to gather more detailed insights from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC).

“These inputs will then be refined and carefully considered in our effort to develop the tourism industry in Melaka, as the state government remains committed to enhancing sustainable tourism infrastructure and facilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the bid to solidify Malaysia’s position as a sustainable tourism destination ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), Tourism Malaysia has been organising engagement sessions with industry players across various states.

Melaka is the fifth state to host this session after Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

The engagement sessions will next be held in the East Coast region, starting with Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

A total of five presentations were delivered during the engagement session, covering Strategic Direction Towards VM2026, Visit Malaysia Secretariat 2026, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Grant (GAMELAN) 2025, Tourism Sector Support Grant 2025, and Aviation and Charter Sector Grant (GSPC) 2025.
