NUR@PETRA INITIATIVE BOOSTS ENERGY EFFICIENCY PRACTICES - SEDA

21/03/2025 10:20 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Following the success of the SAVE 4.0 programme last year, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), through the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), has introduced NUR@PETRA this year.

SEDA chief operating officer Koh Keng Sen said that the e-Rebate initiative is a rebranded version of SAVE 4.0, which was previously limited to domestic users.

“NUR@PETRA is not entirely new; it is a rebranded version of the SAVE 4.0 programme. Previously, SAVE 4.0 was limited to domestic users, but with NUR@PETRA, we are extending e-Rebates to MSMEs, as well as the commercial and industrial sectors,” he said.

Koh said this when he appeared as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme last night.

SAVE 4.0, implemented from December 2023 to December 2024, previously offered e-Rebates of up to RM400 for the purchase of air conditioners and refrigerators with four and five-star energy-efficiency ratings, helping consumers reduce the cost of energy-efficient appliances.

The rebate, funded by the Electricity Supply Industries Trust Account (AAIBE), with an allocation of RM50 million, is part of the government's efforts to promote the purchase and use of energy-efficient appliances.

Elaborating further, Koh said that the initiative not only helps consumers reduce the cost of purchasing energy-efficient electrical appliances, but also leads to lower electricity bills through energy savings.

“In terms of environmental sustainability, reducing electricity consumption helps lower carbon emissions, while promoting energy-efficient practices which contribute to reducing energy use, carbon emissions, and air pollution,” he said.

Meanwhile, SEDA Technical Development and Facilitation director, Steve Anthony Lojuntin, who also appeared as a guest on the show, said that the NUR@PETRA initiative, launched earlier this year, is divided into three categories: NUR:DOMESTIK, NUR:PMKS, and NUR:CHILLER.

NUR:DOMESTIK provides e-Rebates of up to RM400 for households purchasing 4 and 5-star energy-efficient electrical appliances; NUR:PMKS offers e-Rebates of up to RM4,000 for MSMEs acquiring the same appliances, while NUR:CHILLER provides e-Rebates of up to RM75,000 for industrial and commercial users investing in energy-efficient cooling systems.

“For the NUR:DOMESTIK category, the application process is straightforward - applicants simply need to present their electricity bill and identity card at a participating store or e-commerce platform to verify their eligibility.

“As for the NUR:PMKS category, companies must apply through our system and be registered with SMECorp. Additionally, they must have a valid company registration and use commercial electricity supply,” he said, adding that the programme will run until Dec 31 this year.

According to him, a total of 1,377 shops nationwide have registered to participate in the programme so far.

“For those interested in learning more about registered shops, they can visit the SEDA Malaysia website at www.seda.gov.my/nur where consumers can directly visit the participating stores to redeem the rebate,” he said.
