21/03/2025 09:48 PM

CHUKAI, March 21 (Bernama) -- Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has lauded the government's decision to increase the capitation grant rate to state governments by 25 per cent starting in 2026.

He said the move reflected the good relations and effective discussions between the federal and state governments.

Ahmad Samsuri added that it also marked the beginning of efforts to enhance several other grant rates for state governments, taking demographic differences into account.

“The last time this rate was amended was in 2002, and over the past 20 years, many changes have certainly occurred in terms of population and economic value.

“In Terengganu, the population has increased by 31.6 per cent during this period, rising from 936,000 in 2002 to 1.23 million currently,” he said at the Terengganu State-Level MADANI Breaking of Fast Ceremony at Sultan Ahmad Mosque here today.

On March 6, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, announced that the capitation grant rate allocated to state governments would be increased by 25 per cent, or RM109 million, to RM548 million, effective from 2026.
